Kelly Preston, the actress and wife of John Travolta, has died aged 57 after losing her battle with breast cancer, her husband said in a post on Instagram Sunday.

Preston, who played dramatic and comic foil to actors ranging from Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire to Arnold Schwarzenegger in Twins, died at the family's home in Florida, Travolta wrote.

She was known for her roles in films such as Jerry Maguire, SpaceCamp, and Twins, as well as for her television work in series such as CSI: Miami and Medium.

Preston and Travolta were married for 29 years and had three children together. Their son, Jett, died in 2009 at the age of 16.

In his Instagram post, Travolta paid tribute to his wife, writing: "She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many."

He added: "Kelly's love and life will always be remembered."
